Enjoy a bout of festive wrestling

THE final Celtic Wrestling show of the year is set to be a real Christmas cracker.

Taking place at the Studio Bar, Merthyr Tydfil, Enter Santa Live will see the feud of the Bassey brothers, Thomas and Steven, come to an end, as they do battle in a lumberjack match, where all of the locker room will surround the ring, making sure the action does not spill outside.

Should it do so, the lumberjacks will be required to get both wrestlers back in the ring by any means necessary.

The Tie Dye Maphia, Caiman and Chris Recall, will have the odds stacked against them, as they do battle with the team of Lyndon Ham, Scouse and the Loose cannons (Petherwick and T Bone).

Interactive champion, Jonny the Body, will defend his title when he takes on an opponent to be named by the fans.

Robbie Everest, Thunderbolt Tommy Dean and Mister Stevie B are all in the running in an online poll to name his opponent (the poll can be found on www.celticwrestling.co.uk).

Heavyweight champion, Maddog Max, will defend the strap, in triple threat action, against Matt Vaughn and Justin Johnson.

Both Vaughn and Johnson are hungry for the championship. This is a match for the ages and a possible match of the year candidate on paper.

The grappling begins at 2.30pm on Saturday, December 22 at the Studio Bar. Doors open at 2.15pm.

A night out with Maddog Max and Jonny the Body

CELTIC Wrestlers are preparing to stage their biggest show in Merthyr for a long time.

The Celtic Wrestling show will return to the Studio Bar on Thursday, September 13.

The night of wrestling will feature Merthyr’s first cable match and lumberjack match, plus a tag team champions match.

Heavyweight champion Maddog Max will defend his title against Merthyr’s own Thomas Bassey in the cable match which involves both men being joined at the wrist with a length of cable.

The winner is the first man to tap all four corners of the ring consecutively without receiving any offence from the opponent.

In the lumberjack contest other wrestlers are allowed to take control of the match if fighters Jonathan James or Jonny the Body leave the ring.

“The night is set to be a night of champions,” said a spokesman for Celtic Wrestling.

“It will also be a night of wrestling firsts for Merthyr Tydfil, and one of the biggest wrestling events to hit Merthyr in a long, long time.

“Celtic Wrestling promise to deliver a hard-hitting night of wrestling action for all the family.”

Entry to this event is £6 for adults and £5 for under 16s.

Tickets are available in advance from the venue or on the door, for more information visit www.celticwrestling.com.

It's grapple time

GRUNTS and groans are back in town this weekend when big time wrestling returns to Merthyr Tydfil.

This Saturday, July 14, the Studio Bar hosts the latest grappling action, with a super bill that features international stars such as the current Celtic Wrestling Champion Jonny Storm.

With his patented Rewind Hurricanrana and high-flying style, the Essex-born Wonderkid has wowed crowds from America to Japan, and his title defence against Maddog Maxx – the man who crowds love to hate – will surely provide top quality wrestling.

In addition to athletes from all over the UK, two Merthyr bred wrestlers will be hoping for a result in front of their home fans.

Thomas Bassey, the self-styled One Man Riot, will want to get back on the championship trail with a win over Mountain Ash’s Mister Stevie B.

Caiman, however, is looking to talk rather than fight, and he has a proposal that will only be revealed on a day that promises high drama and entertainment.

So if you want to learn the difference between a bulldog and a suplex, Celtic Wrestling’s Dangerzone starts at 2.30pm, with doors open at 2pm. Entry will cost £7 for adults and £5 for under-16s. Visit www.celticwrestling.com for more details.

Wrestling Celts ready for action

CELTIC Wrestling will have an international flavour this June as two of America’s biggest female names, Cheerleader Melissa and Amazing Kong, clash to prove who really is the baddest woman on the planet.

However, the excitement won’t end there with several of Celtic Wrestling’s best home-grown names in action.

Caiman, Tyler Browne, Maddog Maxx, Thomas Bassey and others will invade Canton Community Centre for what should be their biggest Cardiff event so far.

Wrestling

This weekend sees a Celtic Wrestling show with a difference at the Studio Bar when the usual suspects roll into Merthyr Tydfil.

As well as an all-action card, the Manic in Merthyr show will feature Ring the Bell, where for the first time CW stars are interviewed in the ring by an as yet unnamed fellow wrestler.

One of the highlights will be an Interactive Championship match where Thomas Bassey will defend his crown against either Wayne John or Lyndon Ham - the audience will decide who he faces, as well as the format of the contest.

The Rare Breed tag team of Maddog and Kade will be in action, with Matt Vaughn and The Workman also going head-to-head.

Both men have recently returned to CW after spending several months touring the USA and Canada, where they will have surely bagged some new tricks.

This will be the perfect opportunity for them to pull all the stops in their first face-off since returning to the UK.

Doors open on Saturday at 2pm, with first bell at 2.30pm.

Celtic Wrestling - A New Chapter

A lot has happened to Celtic Wrestling since its inception in October 2005.

The company was billed as an alternative wrestling promotion for the fans in South Wales. C/W also promised to bring in top UK and Irish talent, as well as international wrestlers, and they have done just that.

Wrestlers such as Jay Phoenix, Jonny Storm, Sheamus O'Shaunessy and Spud have all debuted for this Welsh promotion. Even Steve Corino, (former ECW worker), Tracy Smothers and Joe E Legend who both once worked for WWE have been brought in to work with the roster of C/W.

Local talent has also been trained by the C/W owner, Karl Griffiths, and eventually put onto shows.

Innovations were introduced, such as performing Rock 'n' Wrestling shows and an Interactive Title whereby fans on the C/W forums can vote for the match stipulation and the champion's opponent.

Video clips showcasing their C/W series entitled Chaos are also only available from their website. Merchandise such as DVDs of past events and a C/W T-Shirt can also be purchased online or by attending any upcoming show.

Celtic Wrestling intend to regularly perform at their Merthyr Tydfil base at the Studio Bar, as well bringing their shows to The Arena in Abertillery, and other venues in the South Wales area, including Cardiff. C/W will also continue to bring in top wrestling talent.

For further information regarding Celtic Wrestling you can check out their website at www.celticwrestling.co.uk.

The site lists all the upcoming events, pictures and results from every past show, history of each C/W title, media, merchandise, articles and interviews. Fans can also view the roster and staff behind C/W, and chat with other fans through the C/W forums.

Show your support for Welsh wrestling and get behind C/W!
